In autumn 2018, Canon released the brand's first full frame mirrorless camera. The Canon EOS R introduced the world to the all-new RF lens mount. This offered an excellent balance of outstanding optical, mechanical, and electronic technology. That brought the possibility for innovative lens designs, faster autofocus, and ultra-fast communication between camera and lens.

The new full frame system: Canon EOS R

At the end of 2018, Canon released its first full frame mirrorless camera, the Canon EOS R. Alongside it came four brand-new lenses specially designed for the RF mount! This mirrorless camera delivers outstanding performance and has a very user-friendly design. With it, you capture the finest details in both photo and video.

The EOS R is Canon's first full frame mirrorless camera. Thanks to the innovative technology in this new mirrorless camera, you can photograph and film the finest details. The camera features a 30.3 megapixel CMOS sensor and has a compact, ergonomically designed body. The Canon EOS R introduces a newly designed lens mount for this system, the RF mount. This ensures a perfect electronic and mechanical connection between the body and the newly designed RF lenses. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF focuses within 0.05 seconds and delivers razor-sharp images. The new EOS R system is characterised by speed, perfect ergonomics, and superior image quality. Thanks to the innovative technology, you can shoot and film with exceptional sharpness, even in very low-light conditions. The camera has a compact build and can shoot and film silently.

Canon RF lenses

Alongside the Canon EOS R, a number of new lenses and accessories have also been released. The RF lens mount brings a world of new possibilities with it. Lenses have been developed for the Canon EOS R that were previously not possible. For example, the RF 50mm f/1.2L USM is the fastest in its class and sets the new standard for quality and speed. The other EOS R lenses are also extremely fast and deliver outstanding performance in poor lighting conditions. In addition, the RF lenses feature a configurable control ring for intuitively adjusting exposure settings, including ISO, aperture, and exposure compensation.

What should I do with my current EF and EF-S lenses?

Do you still have Canon EF or EF-S lenses? No problem — you can use these on the Canon EOS R series mirrorless cameras using the EF-RF mount adapter! This means you're not limited to RF lenses alone, but can also get started with other lenses. The compact and lightweight mount adapter ensures that the autofocus and image stabilisation functionalities of the EF and EF-S lenses are retained.
