Nikon Z7 II: out and about with Russell Pearson
Photography is about more than the picture. It evokes emotion and gets people talking. Isn't that what makes being a photographer so wonderful? We certainly think so! Working as a photographer demands the utmost not only from yourself but also from your gear. With the Nikon Z7 II, we know that's taken care of. But what does a professional think? We visited Russell Pearson with the Nikon Z7 II to hear his opinion.
Who is Russell Pearson?
Russell Pearson was born in the UK and lives in the Netherlands. He speaks both languages fluently. His passion for travel is what made photography grow for him. It gave him the opportunity to work in beautiful and unique places. His work has been published in National Geographic and Lonely Planet Traveller UK and NL, among others. Not bad at all! About his own work, he says: “I am always trying to push myself and capture images that are a little different than the rest, which isn’t easy sometimes”.
Lately, he has been doing a lot of portrait photography, so no wonder we visited him while he was working on a shoot for FHM! Russell shared a number of photos from his FHM shoot with us. They were all taken with the Nikon Z7 II and can be found at the bottom of the page. That's also where you'll find our review of the Nikon Z7 II. Curious about how he works? Let's take a look first.
Nikon Z7 II
The Nikon Z7 II is made for you. This mirrorless camera has high resolution, superior focusing and performs in the most difficult lighting conditions. But that's not all: to perform as well as possible, it has two EXPEED processors. This gives it twice the processing power of other mirrorless cameras, which has a number of advantages:
- Large buffer of 50 RAW and 200 JPEG bursts
- Accurate and fast focusing
- Fast write speeds
Large Z mount: more light, highest image quality
The Z mount has a diameter of 55mm. That's larger than other full-frame cameras. A larger mount means more light. More light means high image quality, and that's what we like to see!
Autofocus
Using autofocus used to be taboo, but thanks to the Nikon Z7 II that's a thing of the past. The Nikon Z7 II uses 273 focus points. These focus points are precisely calibrated. You can lock your focus onto a moving subject. That means your subject is always in focus, even when it moves. The function can be used for both people and animals in photo and video mode.
Ergonomics
With the Nikon Z7 II, you always want to keep going without getting cramp in your hands in the middle of an important photo shoot. At a time when cameras need to be lightweight, ergonomics sometimes get overlooked. That's why Nikon listens carefully to the feedback it gets from professionals.
The camera has a deeper grip, so you can hold it really securely. This lets you use it comfortably for longer periods. To keep up the pace in your professional career, the buttons are positioned so you can use them by feel. Want to know why the Nikon Z7 II or the Nikon Z series is worth it?
