What is a XQD card?

The XQD card introduced in 2012 is a type of memory card that, together with the CFast, serves as a successor to the Compact Flash. At the moment, Sony and Lexar are the only brands marketing this type of card, and the question is whether more brands will follow in the future. Despite the high transfer speed of 1 GB/s, the market supporting the XQD cards is still limited A number of advanced Nikon DSLR cameras currently support this type of card.

Future use

Just shortly after the introduction of the XQD card, the successor of this type was already announced. The CFexpress card is economical in consumption, and is likely to support speeds of up to 8 GB/s.
