Number of clicks
Every time you take a photo with a camera, the shutter is activated. We call this a ‘click’. The shutter is a mechanical component and wears over time, just like a car with mileage on the clock. That is why the number of clicks gives a good indication of how intensively a camera has been used. Every camera has an expected shutter lifespan, usually between 100,000 and 300,000 clicks, depending on the type and brand.
What can you expect per number of clicks?
< 10,000: As good as new
Very lightly used, usually in excellent condition.
10,000 - 25,000: Lightly used
Used a few times but technically in excellent condition.
25,000 - 50,000: Normally used
Typical use for an enthusiastic photographer or semi-professional.
50,000 - 75,000: Regularly used
Actively used, for example by a semi-professional.
75,000 - 100,000: Intensively used, still perfectly usable
Intensively used, but professional models are designed for this.
100,000 - 150,000: Experienced but usable
Perfect as a backup camera or a technically smart budget choice.

A well-used camera, but it can still last surprisingly long.
