Filters

There are various types of filters, used to add a specific effect to a photo — sometimes a particular colour, tint, or reflection effect. The most commonly used filters are UV and CP filters (circular polarising).

UV Filters

These are the most widely used filters, blocking UV radiation from the atmosphere. They often contribute to better image quality. However, that is not the main reason most photographers purchase them. They are primarily used to protect lenses. Scratches on the lens surface are extremely annoying and can sometimes even appear in photos. To reduce this risk, you simply screw a filter in front of the lens opening. You would much rather replace a filter than a lens, which is often far more expensive. A UV filter can be left on the lens at all times, as it causes virtually no light loss.

MRC

The Multi Resistant Coating is a hard, scratch-resistant layer. MRC combines optical quality and maximum reflection reduction with easy filter cleaning. Both water and moisture, as well as dust and dirt particles, barely adhere to the filter surface. The protection offered by the MR coating ensures the high optical quality of your B+W filter lasts even longer. See the image below for further explanation. The left side of the filter has no MRC surface; the right side does.
