The DZOFilm Vespid Prime 2 35mm T1.9 PL is designed for filmmakers who want a modern, controlled cinema look without sacrificing on-set flexibility. The 35mm focal length is widely used for its natural perspective, making this lens ideal for dialogue scenes, medium shots and dynamic camera moves. Paired with a constant T1.9 aperture, it offers plenty of creative freedom, even in low light.
Optically, the Vespid Prime 2 series has been completely revised. The 35mm features an advanced design with 13 elements in 9 groups, including aspherical elements and high-quality coatings. This layout delivers high sharpness across the frame, controlled chromatic aberration and consistent contrast. Colour rendering is carefully matched, so multiple lenses in the series can be combined seamlessly without visible differences in colour or character.
A key advantage of this series is minimal focus breathing. During focus pulls, the angle of view remains stable, which is a major benefit for narrative scenes and controlled camera movement. Thanks to floating elements, image quality is maintained at close focusing distances as well. With a close focus of 0.5 metres and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.5, this 35mm is also well-suited to detail shots without immediately reaching for a macro lens.
Mechanically, the lens is built for professional cine use. The PL mount supports Cooke i metadata, allowing focus distance, aperture and focal length to be transmitted in real time to compatible cameras and post-production software. Manual focus offers a long 300-degree rotation for precise, predictable control. Iris operation is fully manual and linear, making exposure changes consistent and repeatable.
The compact, uniform build is a hallmark of the Vespid Prime 2 series. With an 80 mm front diameter, an 80 mm length and an M77 filter thread, this lens integrates easily into existing rigs, matte boxes and follow focus systems.
