The Explore Scientific 16 Inch Ultra Light Dobson 406mm is a Newtonian reflecting telescope. No other type of telescope has influenced the world of amateur astronomy as radically as the Dobson telescope. Before the Dobson was introduced by John Dobson, most amateur astronomers worked with an unstable setup. Larger telescopes were reserved only for a selective group of amateurs. The brilliant combination of a simple and effective design combined with good mechanics and very large mirrors was applauded worldwide. No other telescope design offers greater light output for the amateur than a good Dobson.

Designed by amateurs for amateurs, the Explore Scientific Ultra Light Dobson Series offers very high value for money. Despite the large mirror, the telescope can be easily transported or stored. The very practical mounting system allows the telescope to be set up quickly and easily. The construction is optimised for maximum rigidity at minimum weight. The combination of the large wheels and the optimised aluminium "sandwich" construction ensures very small and smooth movements at high magnifications. The focuser has already been optimised to accommodate an optional coma corrector.
