Explore Scientific U-Mount for BT Giant Binoculars
With the U-Mount, there is no shaking or disruptive vibrations — the combination sits rock-solid, as if cast from a single mould, ensuring uninterrupted viewing pleasure in all positions of the binoculars. Whether you're keeping an eye on the night sky or observing the landscape, the U-Mount provides a solid base for your large binoculars and delivers smooth, even movement on both axes.
An easy-to-transport yet solid mount is of the utmost importance when using large binoculars. A simple photo tripod with a ball head or video tilt head is quickly overwhelmed in this role. The new Explore Scientific U-Mount features a fine mechanism with adjustable friction on both axes, enabling easy adjustment and tracking even when the load capacity is fully utilised. Depending on the friction intensity set, the binoculars' position is held stable or smooth, even movement can take place. The large adjustment knobs on both axes operate smoothly and are easy to use, even with gloves on or with clammy fingers. Vibrations are kept to an absolute minimum thanks to the solid construction of the U-Mount. Even at high magnification, there is no blurring and the finest details can be observed. For easy transport, the U-Mount and tripod can be separated from one another.
Using the quick-change adapter plate included in the delivery, the binoculars can be mounted and removed again in just a few seconds. This is a significant advantage, particularly for mobile use outdoors. The connection between the binoculars and the adapter plate is made via two bolts with 1/4-inch thread (standard photo tripod thread), which are guided variably in a slot. Universal use with different binoculars is therefore possible. The double screw connection guarantees a very secure fit for the binoculars. The adapter plate itself is also attached to the U-Mount using two large clamping screws, which are easy to operate even when wearing gloves. Nothing wobbles here, and all controls are straightforward to use.
Regardless of the surface, the Explore Scientific tripod provides a secure stance. The solid aluminium and stainless steel construction effectively suppresses all types of vibration. The stainless steel tripod legs with a large diameter of 50 mm and the aluminium tripod head plate form an ideal combination, offering maximum stability at a moderate transport weight of just 5.8 kg. With the tripod legs attached and folded in, the transport dimensions are just 80 cm. The accessory tray included in the delivery also serves to secure the tripod legs on the outside, further increasing stability. By extending the tripod legs, the working height for the binoculars can be individually adjusted within a range of approximately 100 to 140 cm.
