In the Prime-XS series, the glass is chemically toughened for extra strength, extra clear for more light transmission and has an extra strong ring so the filter lasts longer.

Hoya 43mm UV Prime-XS

Using a UV filter reduces casts, corrects blue and violet in colour photos and sharpens black-and-white images. The multi-coating also reduces annoying reflections. A UV filter is recommended to protect multi-coated lenses from damage and reduce UV light. Multi-coated UV filters are designed for outdoor, portrait and "snapshot" photography. The UV filter has a filter factor of zero and does not affect exposure.
