The emulsion is applied to a double-weight fibre base with a base weight of 255 g/m². The warm image tone of this paper makes it ideal for artistic photography and portraits. Unlike some other paper types that achieve their warm tone through a "true" warm-tone emulsion, this paper achieves its warm tone with additional dyes in the emulsion. This special characteristic makes the paper slightly more sensitive. Ilford Multigrade FB Warmtone delivers excellent results with virtually all toning and chemical reduction techniques. However, the lith printing process causes the paper to behave as a cold-tone paper.

Multigrade FB Warmtone offers 7 full contrast grades, from grade 00 to grade 5. The contrast can be precisely controlled during exposure using colour filters. It is available in the most common sheet formats and on roll with the following surface finishes: 1K (glossy) and 24K (semi-matt).
