The Leofoto Geared head with GR-3 geared panning adapter is a 3-axis tripod head with fine-tuning controls for precise movements and full control over your composition. Unlike the G3 and G4 heads, which have no gear mechanism for panning, or the G4 PRO which does, the G4 PROM also features a quick-release lock on the panning clamp for faster panning adjustments. In essence, the G4 PRO is based on the G4 and adds the GR-2 panning clamp, while the G4 PROM adds the GR-3 panning clamp.

There are two brass gear axes operated via rotating knobs. They offer a range of movement from +110° to -50° and from +40° to +40°. Each of these axes also has a lever to disengage the gear mechanism for faster positioning; the gear control knobs will not move the tripod head unless these levers are locked.

On top of the tripod head sits a Leofoto GR-3 clamp with 360° rotation and laser-etched degree markings for creating composite panoramas. The clamp features a gear mechanism for precise adjustment via a larger knob on the side. There is also a smaller flat knob that disengages the gear mechanism when you need to rotate the camera more quickly (this is the key difference from the G4 PRO). The smaller round knob locks and unlocks the Arca Swiss-compatible clamp, and the head comes supplied with the Leofoto QP-70 quick-release plate. The clamp and plates are Arca Swiss-compatible, ensuring further compatibility with products such as L-brackets, camera cages, lens feet, or compatible quick-release plates from other brands. Finally, the clamp features two integrated spirit levels for levelling the top of the tripod head.

You'll also find an additional panning lock at the base of the tripod head. This locks via a small lever that can also be pulled away from the tripod head and repositioned. The base of the head has a 3/8" threaded socket for mounting on top of a tripod.
