Sony FX3A
The Sony FX3 has been upgraded and renamed the Sony FX3A. The Sony FX3A takes you into the world of cinema. The video camera is super compact, yet has everything you look for as a cinematographer. 4K image quality, low-light, real-time Eye AF & touch tracking and much more.
Sensor
The Sony FX3A (ILMEFX3AB.CEC) uses a 10.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and, together with the Bionz XR processor, this technology delivers the performance you are looking for. This sensor not only makes it possible to film in 4K at 120fps, but also with minimal rolling shutter. This means you have no blackouts. In addition, it also ensures that you can achieve stunning results in challenging lighting conditions. You have an ISO up to 409,800 and a wide dynamic range of +15 stops.
Autofocus and stabilisation
Sony’s autofocus is renowned for its accurate Eye autofocus for people and animals. With this camera, they take it one step further and you can even work with touch tracking. This means you tap a person or object on your screen. The camera will then automatically ensure that your chosen subject remains sharp, even when it moves. The improved FX3A features an upgraded LCD touchscreen with 2.36 million dots (compared with 1.44 million dots in previous versions). This lets you see in maximum detail what is in focus. The camera also uses five-axis image stabilisation. You will notice that you never have shaky footage again. In any case, it will not be because of the camera.
S-log3 and S-Cinetone
The most talked-about and probably also the most used picture profiles are S-log3 and S-Cinetone. These picture profiles allow you to add high contrast in post-production with beautiful clarity and detail. Please note that when using S-log3, you always need to edit your footage. By contrast, S-Cinetone, inspired by Venice colourimetry, uses beautiful colours and natural skin tones. You can use this directly without necessarily having to post-process your footage. If you do want to do so, there is still enough room to do it.
WiFi and Bluetooth
As you would expect from Sony, you can once again use a WiFi and Bluetooth connection. This allows you to transfer your footage directly to your mobile phone or stream it. In addition, you have the option to safely store your footage on the two CFExpress Type A or SD cards.
Exterior
With a weight of 715 grams, you can confidently say that it is not only pleasantly lightweight, but also convenient to add to your existing gear. The camera uses E-mount and can therefore be used with lenses you may already have purchased for other cameras. In addition, it has everything you need as a cinematographer. A 3.5 XLR mini-jack input, 2x microphone input, an input for USB type-C and micro USB, and an HDMI output.
