Dual A/D converters and 32-bit float resolution capture every detail with a dynamic range of over 133 dB and without clipping. Each of the four XLR/TRS combo inputs features Tascam Ultra HDDA low-noise preamps (EIN -127 dBu), delivering crystal-clear audio quality even in the most unpredictable environments.
Record a full multi-microphone setup with confidence. With four inputs and two outputs, the FR-AV4's built-in mixer offers flexibility while simultaneously capturing all four channels — plus a stereo mix — for 6-track recording directly to SDXC media.
A built-in timecode generator ensures solid synchronisation throughout your entire setup without the need for additional equipment. The unit offers a wide range of timecode synchronisation options, including HDMI input/output, dedicated timecode in and out, timecode output for a camera, and wireless synchronisation with Atomos via Bluetooth (optional AK-BT2 adapter required). HDMI synchronisation\* aligns audio and video precisely using a shared master clock and timecode. The record trigger function lets you start and stop audio recording directly from a supported camera — no extra steps, no worrying about missed takes. With full 4K/8K video pass-through and built-in multichannel audio support, the FR-AV4 integrates effortlessly with monitor recorders such as Blackmagic and Atomos.

Simply connecting an FR-AV4 to a camera via HDMI ensures accurate synchronisation of video and audio. This also means the FR-AV4 automatically starts and stops recording when the camera is operated.
Four audio tracks plus a stereo mix can be recorded on the FR-AV4. The 4K/8K video signal passes through the FR-AV4 and is recorded on the monitor recorder. In addition, the FR-AV4 passes through the camera's audio, which is recorded as part of the multi-track audio on the monitor recorder.
If four recording tracks are not enough, you can connect multiple FR-AV4 units via HDMI to create a cascade. This synchronises the clock between devices, and recording can be started and stopped from the first unit in the chain.
