The Best Locations for Drone Photography

Utrechtse Heuvelrug

If you want to capture forests, fens, and hills with your drone, go to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. With the exception of a few small areas, you are allowed to fly your drone throughout the entire region. You’ll find fens, castles, colourful heathlands, and beautiful open spaces—perfect for shooting varied aerial footage.

Loonse en Drunense Duinen

These stunning sand dunes are located in North Brabant and are perfect for aerial photos or videos. In this National Park, drone flying is allowed with a permit. Keep in mind that you may not leave the walking paths in many places, so make sure you don’t lose sight of your drone.

The Wadden Islands

Except for a large part of Vlieland, most of the Wadden Islands are ideal for capturing drone photos and videos. You can work undisturbed here. Will you capture the wild dunes, the rough sea, or the vast open fields?

The Dutch Coast

Here, you’ll find a highly varied landscape within a relatively small area: sea, dunes, and beautiful beaches. In principle, you may fly your drone along the entire Dutch coast, but be aware of gliders that have priority and may fly low.

Kalmthoutse Heide

This heathland offers incredibly diverse nature with something for everyone: heath, fens, sand drifts, and pine forests. There’s also a good chance of spotting snakes, hares, lizards, many bird species, and other wildlife. Plenty of inspiration! It can get busy here, so always be mindful of your surroundings.

The Flemish Ardennes

You cannot fly everywhere here, but in most of the area you can. The region is known for its hilly landscape, many windmills, forests, fields, and waterways. It’s not called the “Hiking Paradise” for nothing. You can cover hundreds of kilometres and still be surprised by new vistas and beautiful nature.

Wild Iceland

Iceland is the land of glaciers, waterfalls, endless plains, and of course the Northern Lights. You may fly your drone up to 130 metres high throughout Iceland, as long as you stay away from airports. Rent a car, plan your route, and make sure you bring enough batteries. You may not fly over national parks, but there are still plenty of options. Even over the capital, Reykjavik, you can capture stunning “bird’s-eye” views.

Diverse China

China is known for megacities like Beijing and Shanghai, but it has much more to offer. There is, of course, the famous Great Wall, which winds thousands of kilometres through the country. You can also put your drone to work at the magnificent mountains of Zhangjiajie or the karst landscapes around Guilin in the south. Flying is allowed in most places in China with a drone up to 7 kg. Heavier drones require a licence.

The Greek Islands

You can fly on every Greek island, provided you follow the rules. Choose Corfu or Zakynthos if you love green nature and a pleasant climate, or the lesser-known Evia if you want to stay closer to the mainland. Samos and Thassos are great for beach and nature lovers, while Crete boasts many photogenic villages. Mountain enthusiasts can look toward Kos or Rhodes.

Philippines

The Philippines have a tropical climate characterised by high biodiversity. You’ll find stunning landscapes, azure waters, and rich flora and fauna—tropical snapshots guaranteed! You’re allowed to fly almost anywhere in the Philippines with a drone up to 7 kg. Keep at least 10 km away from airports, don’t fly at night, and stick to a maximum altitude of 121 metres.
