B+W Basic Circular Polarising Filter MRC 46mm

The B+W Basic Circular Polarising Filter MRC 46mm simply screws onto the lens of your camera. The filter gives photos high contrast and colour saturation and removes reflections from water and glass surfaces. The clear optical glass with MRC protective coating is of excellent quality. The filter mount is made of matt black brass and there is a screw thread on both sides of the filter. In addition, the rotation ring features an optimised ribbed pattern and a thread coating that makes rotating the polarising section easier.

The designation 'MRC' refers to the Multi Resistant Coating on B+W filters. An MRC coating guarantees maximum reflection reduction and minimises disturbing stray light. This allows brighter colours to be achieved and contrast to be increased. The coating also prevents the so-called ghost images that can normally occur due to reflection on the sensor. In addition, the MRC coating protects the filter against scratches, grease and dust. Because a 7-layer coating has been applied to both sides of the filter, the hardness of the filter is increased. This makes the filter less sensitive to external influences and extends its lifespan.

How the circular polarising filter works

Circular polarising filters are among the most important filters for photographic applications. Polarising filters can be rotated in the filter mount to achieve certain effects, such as increasing colour saturation. The maximum effect is achieved when photos are taken at an angle of 90 degrees to the sun. By rotating the filter, the effect of the polarising filter can be seen through the viewfinder or on the camera's LCD screen. A second function of a circular polarising filter is reducing reflections in water, metal surfaces and glass (shop windows, for example). Objects behind these surfaces are more visible when using the polarising filter — an effect that cannot be achieved with programs such as Adobe Photoshop.
