Spyder Checkr Photo Grey Balance Card
The Spyder Checkr Photo Grey Balance Card gives you a consistent, neutral reference point for accurate colours and correct exposure, without needing any calibration software. Place the card in the same lighting conditions as your subject, make sure it's facing the camera directly, and avoid glare or uneven exposure on the surface.
Set your camera to manual or custom white balance, aim it so the large panel of the card fills as much of the frame as possible, and take a white balance reading from your camera on that panel. Then take a reference photo with the card filling a reasonable portion of the frame. In your editing software, such as Lightroom or Capture One, use that reference photo to correct and align all photos taken under the same lighting conditions. Especially in mixed lighting, such as a combination of artificial light and daylight, this neutral grey reference point gives your camera something to rely on where auto white balance often guesses wrong, making skin tones more neutral and bringing back detail that would otherwise be lost.
Don't touch the surface of the card, as oils from your skin affect its accuracy. After use, always store the card in the protective pouch, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, so it keeps reading reliably for future use.
