NiSi S6 Circular ND64 + CPL Filter
The NiSi S6 Circular ND64 + CPL filter is designed for use with a NiSi S6 150 mm filter holder system. It can be screwed into a NiSi S6 adapter ring after removing the included Pro Screw-In circular polarising filter from the kit. When in use, this filter provides an exposure reduction of 6 stops.
The density of 1.8 darkens the entire image, allowing you to shoot with a wider aperture or a longer shutter speed than would normally be required.
By slowing down the exposure time or increasing the aperture, you can control the depth of field and convey movement more easily. ND filters are also useful when the contrast between highlights and shadows is too high to achieve a good exposure.
The ND64 6-stop ND filter is generally used during the golden hour to create exposures of 1–2 minutes for smooth water or clouds. A 6-stop is also great for capturing dynamic water whilst retaining some texture during the golden hour. At the same time, this filter can help reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarised through reflection off a non-metallic surface. Sunlight is naturally partially polarised by reflection from electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarising filter aligns and filters this directionally polarised light perpendicular to the reflected light, allowing much of this light to be absorbed. This results in a noticeable reduction in glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces, as well as an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
NiSi ND filters have no effect on the colouration of the image, deliver true-to-life colours, and are made from high-quality optical glass (not resin) with a nano coating to prevent any loss of detail. By using a neutral density filter, the camera becomes susceptible to infrared light, which will cast an unwanted red colour cast on photos when shooting with a small aperture.
NiSi ND filters feature an infrared-protective coating layer to eliminate infrared light passing through the lens and restore natural, true-to-life colour. The NiSi Pro Nano Coating helps reduce unwanted reflections and provides a waterproof and scratch-resistant layer to assist with the removal of unwanted fingerprints, dust, and water spots.
