You can extend the zoom range of the Panasonic S9 without sacrificing image quality, using the crop zoom function and the hybrid zoom function. The crop zoom function uses the centre of the camera sensor to extend the standard zoom range. The hybrid zoom function combines both optical and crop zoom to push the focal length even further.
