Shimoda Core Unit DSLR RST XL50, 520-455

RST stands for the rear, side, and top access points of the Core Unit. With the RST50 (DSLR - XL50) Core Unit, you can access all your gear from the rear, quickly reach your camera from the side without putting your backpack down, or operate longer superzoom lenses from the top without having to open the back panel.

The RST50 is specifically designed to fill the entire main compartment of the Action X50 backpack. This means it can accommodate lenses up to 53 cm in length, such as the Sony/Canon/Nikon 600mm f/4.0 (mounted to the camera body), as well as the Sony 200-600mm and 400-800mm, Nikon 180-600mm, Canon 200-800mm, Fuji 150-600mm, and OM 150-600mm. These superzoom lenses fit even when mounted to a camera body. PLEASE NOTE: RST Core Units are not compatible with the Shimoda Explore series backpacks.

Shimoda calls them Core Units because they form the heart of the Shimoda system. Thanks to their modular versatility, users can customise their setup with different camera inserts for different days, getting more out of their backpack. While the RST50 can carry the maximum amount of gear an X50 can handle, the ability to swap the Core Unit for smaller versions gives you the flexibility to choose the most suitable Core Unit size for the adventure ahead.

  • Designed to fit perfectly in the Shimoda Action X50 backpack and maximise equipment storage space from top to bottom in the rucksack. This allows lenses up to 53 cm long to fit in the X50, such as the Sony/Canon/Nikon 600mm f/4.0 (attached to the camera), as well as the Sony 200-600mm and 400-800mm, Nikon 180-600mm, Canon 200-800mm, Fuji 150-600mm and OM 150-600mm. These super-zoom lenses will also fit when mounted on a camera body. NOTE: RST Core Units are not compatible with the Shimoda Explore series backpacks
  • Integrates seamlessly with side access on the Shimoda Action X50 backpack. Also provides access to the camera/lens via the zip at the bottom of the expandable roll-top. And offers standard access to the entire camera system via the rear
  • The Shimoda Core Units with DSLR depth are ideal for mirrorless and DSLR cameras with grip up to 15.5 cm tall. The depth allows for more efficient packing, as lenses such as a 16-35mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 24-105mm f/4.0 and other lenses can stand upright
  • The included cover serves primarily as a storage cover for the padded Core Units, ideal for when your equipment is at home and not in use. The cover keeps the Core Unit closed and dust-free. The cover can also be used as a packing bag. You can fill the cover with clothing or other items and take it with you in your backpack or roller case
  • The walls and dividers are made of EVA, which provides much better protection than the cheaper PE foam used in most camera bags. With EVA, Shimoda has more control over the density and quality of the materials used to protect your equipment. This also means the walls can be thinner and take up less internal volume, whilst still offering superior protection
