Light reflected from any type of surface can polarize, so polarization filters are used to determine which light rays are allowed to enter the lens. CIRCULAR PL filters ensure that unwanted reflections disappear from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass, etc. It also ensures that colours become more saturated and contain better contrast. This effect is often used to increase saturation and contrast in blue skies and white clouds. Polarizing filters from Carl Zeiss, however, do not affect the colour balance of the photo.
