The Canon EOS R8 is a very lightweight full frame mirrorless camera with features from the Canon EOS R3 and Canon EOS R6 mark II, namely Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, 4K video in 60fps, 40fps when shooting and 24.2 megapixels.

Photography

The Canon EOS R8 is ideally suited for photography thanks to its 24.2 megapixel full frame sensor. This camera features a faster readout on the sensor, which means you, the image maker, have less trouble with rolling shutter. If you like to capture the action, then the 30fps RAW burst mode of the EOS R8 will help you on your way. With that, you also have a preroll setting, where it records for half a second, 15 frames, before you click the shutter. These photos are shot in both JPG and RAW. So you never miss the spontaneous moment again.

Besides RAW burst mode, the Canon EOS R8 has more cool photo features, namely focus bracketing and multiple exposure. The camera also has several shooting modes that let you get started with close-ups, HDR images and panoramas. This option is ideal if you get excited about capturing landscapes, cities or just the small details of the macro world.

Video

In addition to the Canon EOS R8's photography capabilities, there are also many fine video specifications. This allows you to work with the Canon EOS R8 in 4K resolution at a whopping 60fps, this is oversampled from 6K. This means the sensor stores even more information, making your shots even sharper and more detailed. Besides the 4K capability, you can also record footage in Full HD at 180 frames per second. These specifications make for beautiful slow motions. It is also possible to film vertically, so you can share the footage on your favourite social media platform.

There are also a few features that really make the camera different, for example 3 or 5 second pre-recording, where the camera records for 3 or 5 seconds before you even click the button. Like the preroll function in photos, it ensures you don't miss a moment. One feature that has come over from cinema cameras is the False Colour function. This functionality helps you determine exposure. This is because colour is translated by a certain brightness in the image. Ideal for lighting a green screen. Image stabilisation & autofocus

The Canon EOS R8 features Dual Pixel CMOS AF II. With this system, you no longer have to worry about whether your subject is in focus. This ensures that you can focus on other important things while filming. You can use tracking in different autofocus modes. Autofocus is extensive in its various options. This means you can now track animals and vehicles in addition to eye, face, head and body detection. In tracking, you have a cool feature, which is the custom preset. In doing so, you can create and save your own box, so you can always choose your own focal points.

This camera works with electronic stabilisation. In conjunction with the optical image stabilisation of any lenses, this allows this camera to deliver sharp results.

Functionalities of the housing

The camera features the famous flip touchscreen on which you can sharply see what you are recording. You also have the option of following your subject through the viewfinder. It shows 120 frames per second and features OVF-assist, which stands for Optical Viewfinder Assist. This functionality ensures that even SLR users can get used to this viewfinder.

The camera features Canon's familiar buttons where, thanks to the icons, you can easily see which button is designated for what. A very nice button is the switch from photo and video mode. The Canon RF 24mm has a 5-stop Optical Image Stabiliser. This creates sharp results in low light and smooth video that you can shoot handheld. As such, it's also possible to use a slower shutter speeds. You can even use more stabilisation (6.5 stops). For this, you need an EOS-R camera with built-in Image Stabiliser. 

While vlogging, enjoy a wide angle of view where you can be clearly seen in the picture. The 24mm lens has a fast bright maximum aperture of F/1.4 that also allows you to create beautiful bokeh. Ideal if you want to get creative or work with depth of field. 

With this lens you can take beautiful, high quality landscape photos with less distortion. The macro function on the lens allows you to get up to 14 centimetres away from the subject, so you can capture stunning full frame detail. Inside the lens is an STM motor.
