    About viewfinder cameras

You want to buy a viewfinder camera. You do not yet know which camera you will finally choose. Or perhaps you already know. Regardless, we would like to tell you more about these cameras. This way, you'll learn more and you might find the camera that suits you.

    What is a viewfinder camera?

A viewfinder camera is a range finder camera, uses an optical system (the viewfinder) to determine the content of the composition and uses it in combination with an optical-mechanical focusing system (the lens). In contrast to the DSLR camera, this camera does not have a mirror. As a result, you can photograph almost silently. Ideal for reporting and street photography, when you want to be precisely unnoticeable.

How does a viewfinder camera work?

Focusing with a viewfinder camera requires precision. The image that you see through the viewfinder is not always the same as the image that the lens sees. This is also referred to as a 'parallax error'. During focusing, you see a combination of these images. As soon as the two separate images overlap, the subject is in focus. You can compensate for this difference by manually focusing.

    The power of Leica

If you have a viewfinder camera in mind, you will quickly think of the name Leica. The German manufacturer has developed over the years as the brand for high-quality optical cameras. Soon after its founding in 1917, the manufacturer began to focus on developing the 35mm camera. Because photography could be done more quickly and in a more mobile way.

For years, it developed the analog viewfinder camera until the competition increased and produced digital cameras. The manufacturer was forced to introduce a digital version. The current viewfinder cameras are therefore all digital. However, the analog cameras are also still popular.

    Why a viewfinder camera?

With viewfinder cameras, durability is a priority. The cameras often have a stainless steel casing with a sleek finish. It can last for dozens of years. The camera returns to the absolute basics of photography where you set the shutter speed, aperture and ISO values via wheels. Auto focus is not part of it either. You become even more aware of photography. And, the images? You record them nicely in JPEG or RAW format.
