Streamlined design with new status menus

The Leica SL2 offers an innovative user interface with an efficient design that allows you to keep the focus on the creative process. The design alignment with the existing M and Q systems makes adaptation even easier for existing Leica photographers. Key shooting parameters can be viewed on the rear display and quickly adjusted with a simple tap of the finger. A click wheel, a joystick and three individually configurable buttons contribute to simple operation. Two dedicated status menus for still image and video capture allow the parameters for both capture modes to be adjusted completely separately.

New Leica Object Detection Autofocus

The new Leica Object Detection AF provides fast and reliable AF. New modes and functions have also been added, including face detection. The SL2's powerful AF system also automatically detects your subject's movement and switches between motion and focus priority.

Optical image stabilisation through sensor-shift technology

The Leica SL series camera has undergone a significant evolution. This has resulted in the new sensor that adjusts its position to compensate for camera shake quickly and efficiently. Thanks to this new feature, image stabilisation is now available for lenses that are not equipped with it.

In addition, the SL2 offers the multi-shot mode where up to eight consecutive frames are taken. In this mode, the sensor is shifted in half-pixel increments between each shot. This feature results in images with an incredible fourfold resolution of approximately 187 megapixels, leading to an extreme increase in detail resolution.

Leica EyeRes viewfinder with even higher resolution

The camera's electronic viewfinder boasts a resolution of 5.76 megapixels for a large, completely natural-looking viewfinder image. At the same time, the experience is further enhanced when using the touchscreen, which has increased to 3.2-inches and a significantly higher resolution of 2.1 megapixels.

Maestro III processor for ultra-fast operation

The new Maestro III processor provides superior operating speed that excels in performance across many aspects of the SL2. Autofocus is significantly faster and provides virtually instantaneous shooting capability. This is further complemented by the new Smart AF mode, which switches autonomously between focus priority and shutter priority. Full-resolution sequential shots are possible at 10fps with the mechanical shutter, and up to 20 frames per second with the electronic shutter! Thanks to two UHS-II compatible SD card slots, raw files can be saved in DNG and JPEG formats simultaneously.

Perfect tool for cinematographers

In addition to its great appeal to photographers, the Leica SL2 also speaks the language of cinematographers. The camera enables video recording up to 60fps in Cine 4K and up to 180fps in Full-HD. As soon as cine mode is activated, the SL2 turns into a manually controlled cine camera. In cine mode, ISO values are given in ASA and the shutter speed is marked in degrees on the rotating disc shutter. Also, instead of F-stops, aperture values are given in T-stops, which measure the actual amount of light that passes through the lens. It is also no longer necessary to use adapters to connect audio equipment, as the Leica SL2 features a built-in headphone and microphone jack, complemented by a full-fledged HDMI connection for external monitors.
