Novoflex Castel M

The Novoflex Castel M is a handy slider for photographers who often work with enlargements from 1:1 to 5:1. This manual focus rail is unique in its construction and specially designed for applying focus stacking in a range of progressive magnifications. The Castel M bridges the gap between high-end electronic sliders and traditional design.

In macro photography, depth of field is one of the most challenging aspects to overcome. As the magnification increases, the depth of field decreases. This therefore requires extremely accurate and precise camera movement to create identical distances between individual images within a sequence. The Castel M works with a large number of specialized lenses, such as the Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo and the LAOWA 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5x Ultra MACro, which are often used by macro photographers who apply focus stacking . This slider allows you to achieve consistent, predictable results at different magnifications.

There is a spindle in the middle of the Castel M that allows you to move the camera forward extremely accurately for each image. In addition, it has convenient indexing steps for the magnification factors, which you can easily select via a lever on the inside of the barrel on the focus wheel. You cycle through the series of images with a single click of the focus wheel, which moves the camera clockwise to the focus point of the next image. The slider itself calculates the step size and the precise overlap of the individual images. The click stops are calculated to avoid the negative effects of lens diffraction. They are calibrated for 35mm full-frame cameras with lenses attached at an aperture setting of f/4. Cameras with smaller sensor sizes, such as APS-C, can be used reliably up to 4:1, and Four-Thirds sensors up to 3:1. When the photographer requires full control over camera movement, measured repeatable increments can be achieved using the laser-engraved scale on the focus wheel.
