Description
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III is a compact, lightweight mirrorless camera with a 20.4 MP Live MOS sensor. The camera has a weatherproof body, high-quality AF function and a powerful image stabilising system. In addition, the camera features a wide range of recording functions and creative options.
20.4 MP Live MOS sensor with TruePic VIII image processor
The camera combines the 20.4 MP Live MOS sensor with a fast TruePic VIII image processor, which was used previously in the OM-D E-M1 Mark II. This results in minimal distortion along the edges of your shots and minimal noise, even at high ISOs. The sensor can be cleaned using Olympus' praised SSWF (Super Sonic Wave Filter) technology, which vibrates over 30,000 times per second to remove dust particles from the image sensor every time you turn the camera on.
5-axis image stabiliser
The E-M5 Mark III features integrated 5-axis image stabilisation. The TruePic VIII image processor uses camera movement data from the gyro sensor and image analysis to drive the stabilisation unit. This allows you to compensate for up to 5.5 shutter speed stops at a focal length of 40mm. When you combine the body with a stabilised lens, this even increases to 6.5 stops.
121-Point All Cross-Type Phase-Detection AF
An advanced autofocus system combines both 121 on-chip phase-detection points and 121 contrast detection areas for focusing performance that is both quick and accurate. All 121 phase-detection points are cross-type, too, for improved precision in mixed lighting conditions, as well as enhanced subject tracking capabilities. Different focusing modes are available to suit working in various shooting conditions, including 121-point, for general use; Group 25-point, for moving subjects, such as birds and wildlife, and when 121-point is too wide; Group 9-Point, for smaller and more distant subjects; Group 5-Point, for when 9-point is too wide or to suit working with nearer moving subjects; Single, for working with still or small subjects that are not moving; and Small AF, for working with close-up subjects. Custom AF targets can also be set, for working with specific numbers of focus points within the 121-point grid, and an AF limiter function allows you to constrain the focusing distance within a specified range for more responsive performance.
Weatherproof body
Olympus has given the E-M5 Mark III a characteristic design. The camera is equipped with a large viewfinder for improved visibility. For a good grip, the camera has thumb rests on the back and a larger grip. In addition, the camera is dust-, splash- and frost proof, provided that it is combined with a weatherproof M.Zuiko lens. So there's no need to worry if you get caught in a rain shower. All the components in the Mark III have been drastically reduced in size, making the body very compact. Even with the lens attached, it's still manageable enough to take with you wherever you go.
Versatile shooting options
The camera offers versatile shooting options. Shoot long exposures with Live Composite, ideal for photos with light trails. Pro Capture mode lets you shoot in 14 frames per second from the moment you half-press the shutter button. So you'll never miss the moment. High Res Shot lets you shoot up to 50-megapixel images on a tripod. This is achieved by the image sensor moving in 0.5-pixel steps and taking 8 shots in a row, then combining them. Focus Bracketing takes up to 999 shots with a single press of the shutter release, changing the focus each time. These can then be combined with Focus Stacking to create a single image with a larger depth of field.
With Custom mode, you can save your favourite camera settings and activate them immediately by turning the mode dial to C. SCN (Scene) mode offers a choice of six shooting themes and their optimal settings. In addition, the E-M5 Mark III is equipped with 16 creative filter options, which can be checked on the LCD before taking the picture.
In addition to taking photos, you can of course also shoot video with the E-M5 Mark III, in C4K, 4K and Full HD. The integrated phase-detection AF sensor is used to ensure optimal focusing. You can also rely on the 5-axis stabilisation.
Sharing photos with the Olympus Image Share app
Use Bluetooth to connect the camera to your smartphone. The Olympus Image Share (OI.Share) app lets you quickly transfer images. The Share Order function even allows you to send selected images on the camera to the smartphone automatically when the camera is turned off.
