The Hoya 46mm Star-Six filter in SQ case is an artistic filter to create a dramatic six-beam flare effect that resembles snow crystals. The STAR-SIX filter creates six-beam flare on spots of light and is effective when photographing night lighting, reflections on the surface of water, light leaking through leaves, pictures of jewellery and other scenes with small light sources.
Star filters are dramatic multi-point flashes or beams of light, also called a 'star effect' for bright or strong point light sources in a scene. Star filters come in 3 different variants: PRO1D STAR 4, STAR-SIX and STAR-EIGHT, they have 4, 6 or 8 light rays emanating from the light source respectively.
In Hoya star filters, lines are etched into the surface of the high-quality optical glass to create the glow needed to create the star effect. Each of the filters, PRO1D STAR 4, STAR-SIX and STAR-EIGHT, has different line patterns etched into the glass to create the number of light rays for the filter.
