The Hoya 49mm HDX Protector filter is a completely color-neutral filter that transmits 99.4 percent of the incident light. The filter is made of the best optical glass and is polished on two sides. In contrast to a UV filter, a protector filter can be better used as a protective glass for your lens. In general, a UV filter stops a part of the visible light. Hoya HDX filters are based on the Hoya HD filters but have a slightly better coating.
