Description
The Sony FE 200-600mm F/5.6-6.3 G OSS (SEL200600G.SYX) is a powerful telephoto zoom lens from Sony's G lens range. This range embodies razor-sharp quality due to the ground glass calibre. This lens therefore consists of 24 elements in 17 groups, one of which is aspherical and five are extra-low dispersion glass elements. These elements ensure sharpness across the range. The aspherical element is placed on the back of the lens. For example, it suppresses spherical aberration and distortion and guarantees a high degree of sharpness and accurate displays. The five ED glass elements minimise chromatic aberration, a problem common to many lenses. These five lens elements ensure there is control over the colour edging and you can enjoy a clear image and colour fidelity. The glass is Nano AR coated. This coating suppresses glare, reflection and ghosting. This coating also contributes to the colour rendering and enhanced contrast.
Silent motor and 5-axis image stabilisation
Everyone knows that good image stabilisation is important when you zoom in on your subject. Even more so if you work with a super telephoto zoom lens. Sony cameras therefore use 5-axis image stabilisation. However, this can only be achieved if your lens supports this. BUt thats not a problem with this telephoto zoom. This is compatible with the software, meaning you can even shoot sharp images by hand with no photo movement.
Sony's DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) system is very quiet and has the power and precision to deliver remarkably fast and accurate focusing of the lens. Thanks to the extremely accurate positioning, no movement is lost and razor-sharp autofocus is achieved at lightning speed. Which is ideal if you do wildlife photography.
Gorgeous Bokeh
An 11 blade circular aperture mechanism further enhances the bokeh of this lens, making it possible to use the shallow depth of field from super-telephoto focal lengths for beautiful images with smooth G-lens bokeh. The internal zoom mechanism ensures the lens length doesn't change when zooming, for stable, tripod-less operation with consistent balance. The focus lock buttons are in three positions 90° apart for easy working in any position. The fluorine coating on the front lens and the dust and moisture resistant design provide great reliability in harsh environments. There are more buttons on the outside. Use these to create your own settings. For example, you can choose whether or not to use the image stabilisation in the lens, and whether you want to use manual or autofocus. In addition, you can create different modes for every situation.
Weight and length
Anyone who thinks that this is a heavy lens because of all the above points will be pleasantly surprised. Because Sony has opted for an aperture of F/5.6 -6.3, this lens weighs just over 2kg. This has the advantage that you can easily shoot by hand with this lens.
We also want to mention the advantage of its length. With some zoom lenses, the lens gets longer and longer. Such a lens may be more compact, but the chances of dust, water or sand ingress increases. But that is nowhere as big an issue with this lens. The 318mm length is maintained when you zoom in.
